Century Tuna Superbods Run 2010: The Beginning of a Journey

So we will RUN, all together our hearts aflame, with a heart that can’t be tamed, our God O glory to Your name, Jesus! – from the song Run by Hillsong Australia from the album This is our God.

I have been running in the treadmill for around 10-15 minutes prior to a work-out session for almost 3 years now. Some of my friends have been trying to convince me to try joining a fun run and then I saw this commercial in TV with actor Derek Ramsay about a big running event in Fort Bonifacio sponsored by RunRio and Century Tuna. I said I wanted to give it a try.  I finally came to register in the Timex store (Mall of Asia Branch) last January, 2010. With the influence of a friend, I hesitantly registered for the 10K event. I have never finished that far in my whole life but my friend teased me that 5K is too easy and then the rest was history.

I never really intensively prepared for the event. I just continued my regular treadmill run and tried to extend a little longer. The last workout before the event, I barely reached 30 minutes and my legs started hurting already. I was afraid that I won’t finish 10K. A day before the run, I told myself that if others can do it, there’s no reason why I can’t. I know that God will give me the strength; so I set a goal of finishing the race in less than 1 hr and 15 mins.

The day of February 21 came and up until right now, I still can’t believe that I did 10K in my first ever race. Even better, I finished it faster than I expected and I ranked 151st in my division. Below are the results I got from RunRio.com. God really gave me the strength and endurance that day and I am really thankful for that day when God introduced another chapter of my life; another journey to take. I have joined 4 events ever since (with 2 trail runs) and I know for sure that there’s more to come.

I was listening to the song “Run” by Hillsong while writing this post. It reminds me of my journey as a Christian that I should never stop running!  The song says that we should surrender to bring Him fame and desire for God to be praised and glorified forever and ever.
